New Year Is Far by “Diane” (Draft 1)

New Year Is Far by “Diane”

New Years is so hard when
you are away from the dance we did
when I twirled my skirt and
I fluffed you with my love

I’m saving a seat at the table for you
whenever you come and touch my face

I had a dream last night that
I had a drink of you, and
I was high

But you are away, and
still for my family I’m
making corned beef, cabbage
potatoes and carrots, but
when I crunch I
think I hear your voice.

Mom is bringing bread
and I will spread a prayer
beyond the butter for you

because

I wish you were here.

  1. I do wish you were here. There’s always a place in my space for you, and a dance and a fluff of love. I love the poem, and ‘I will spread a prayer beyond the butter for you’ – what a wonderful start to the new year, the only thing that would make it better would be a kiss from you. I hate to sound like I’m bragging but I DID make a delicious dinner. Everything turned out perfectly and now I’m so full that I’m feeling lazy, I think I’ll go soak in a hot bath and relax (and daydream a little too).
