When the Humming Bird Hums (Draft 1)

I Can Hear The Humming Bird (Draft 1)

A little ordinary bird told me
the humming bird can hear
the flower sing the tune of the petal
when she sings in the wind of his wings,
as he drinks of her nectar. And yes too

the winter flower
under the awning is yawning
as a child wakes up too early, and
bounces on the bed of joy, like
these songs are in harmony, and
in the wind of joy

everybody jump

  1. This is pretty and perfect for spring and I’m so glad the weather has finally gotten warmer, i can’t wait to be able to start planting my flowers. Oh and I do love hummingbirds so much, last year i had some hanging baskets from my deck and they loved the flowers. It was neat because they’d take a rest and sit on the arm of the basket holder. I’d never really seen hummingbirds sit still before. It is funny too how kids want to start waking up earlier when the weather gets warmer.

    1. Thanks. That’s wonderful to see them in person in action and also resting. I’ve only seen them on television. You should get their autograph.

      1. Really? Only on television? Well I’ll have to introduce you to one sometime. They are really fast though and aren’t very polite when it comes to sticking around for conversation. I’m not sure if they’re big enough to use a standard sized pen, I might have to have one specially made if I want an autograph…or maybe they could just give me a little footprint stamped in berry juice or something…I remember when I lived at my parent’s house sometimes I would use my dad’s computer. It was sitting next to a window and sometimes the hummingbirds would fly up and just hover in front of the window like they were looking in at you. I think they were really just looking at their reflection in the glass though. I used to have a hummingbird feeder and I’d buy a red sugary liquid to fill it with but ants found it and I think I fed more ants than hummingbirds with it. Then it blew down during a storm and cracked and I never bought a new one….

    2. I love the story of the humming birds. Maybe a few aardvarks would eat the ants but I’m not sure what mischief they do otherwise — they look pretty big so they must need a lot of ants. I’m not sure you could have aardvarks and hummingbirds in harmony in a yard. Well yeah, I suppose that’s why there’s supposed to be just flowers, and not sugar for ants, but I think if we had an aardvark conference at the UN there could be an agreement that everyone hates ants except at a tolerable level if they would stay in a limited place and not develop nuclear weapons.

      1. An aardvark might be a great idea, i wonder if they can be potty trained to live indoors like a dog because I have some ants that need to be taken care of. I don’t think the aardvarks would bother the humming birds, although I really am not sure if Petals would go for that. She doesn’t really like to share her toys. I came home from work today and there was a bunch of ants on my counter top. This happens every spring when the weather first gets warm…i had a bunch of mail and news paper lying in a stack on the counter so I picked it up to move it to the table so I could put the ant trap down but when I sat the stack of stuff down a spider jumped out from in between some papers. So that scared me. I guess maybe the spider was trying to eat the ants? I’m not sure but I’ve had enough nature in my kitchen for one day…

    3. Yeah, not all of nature is pretty. it reminds me of that famous rhyme:

“There was an old lady who swallowed a fly,
but I don’t know why she swallowed a fly.

“She swallowed a spider to catch the fly,
but I don’t know why she swallowed a fly.

“She swallowed a bird to eat the spider,
but I don’t know why she swallowed a fly.

“She swallowed a cat to eat the bird,
but I don’t know why she swallowed a fly.

      “She swallowed a horse,
      she died of course.”

      1. Yeah, i remember that rhyme…kind of weird really. Why did that lady think it was ok to be swallowing all those different creatures?? And I don’t think it’s actually possible to swallow a horse, well at least a whole one. A lot of those old nursery rhymes were dark…not something I’d think I’d want to read to a kid before bed.
